My dear friend Helen and I have collaborated in the studio for many years now.  Conversations about our work, life and the further world led to our book,

ASPECT ART - Art As the Soul's Journey. 

 

We coined the term 'aspect art' to reflect our sense of exploring individual facets of one's psyche, which include one's own awareness, and the influences and responses to the whole of one's life.  These aspects are discovered, expressed and sometimes, resolved through the creative process.

 

The text flows from our conversations on the principles we bring to our work, our ideas of the symbology we are drawn to use in our pieces, to sharing the impetus behind certain pieces, as well as feelings which emerged from the pieces.  Art and spirituality are the twin windows we look at life through and we share how we comprehend and understand that dance of energy.

 

The book is filled with images and nany of the pieces on this site are included.

ASPECT ART IS A MEANS AND A HELP ON THE SOULS JOURNEY

 

And the soul’s journey is to greater consciousness.  I see the soul’s journey as the way humanity may continue to evolve into more, a way to reduce pain, suffering and the brutality humankind can exhibit.  The soul’s journey is, to me, the most important, alive and exciting journey there is in this particular universe, painful though it may be at times.  I find Aspect Art not only a personal help, but a means of moving toward greater understanding.  It is a support in examining life and a tool of exploration and furthering the soul’s journey.    HS

 

Aspect art also serves as a vehicle on the journey. When we recognized what we were doing as aspect art, by naming and signifying it that way, we created an entry point to understanding we can return to again and again. 

 

It is an entry point to the mystic spiral, the inner maze, the cave of self-exploration.  It is almost akin to a ritual or initiation. The dynamic of Aspect Art is then present in your life as a principle, as in, “I can take this to the studio, I can take this into a piece.  I can enter into a this beauty through a piece.” 

 

You give yourself access to a way of listening to yourself; finding images and elements that are personally meaningful and then expressing feelings through and with those elements, along with color, texture and more.

 

As you follow your feelings and the artistic choices you make with them, you travel through deep recesses and often come out with a different understanding from where you began.

 

In Aspect Art, we gave ourselves a framework, a place to go to for this very exploration. And in our case, we have found our set days in the studio support us in doing this deep exploration together.    EF
