Art is a personal dialogue with the Universe and everything in it.  The world speaks to me and I am moved to gather it in and re-express what has come to me.  I don't know if I understand the All's messages, but I allow myself to follow the energy and express 'me' through what comes to me.

I am led by the need to express and I am inspired by the grandest art and respected artists and the bits of American culture found in the Dollar store, Ebay and junk shop.  Outsider art? Naive?  Folk?  No need to classify.

Do explore my site and it’s galleries.  If anything I've shared here speaks to you, do let me know.  I'd love to hear from you.    e@alterede.com

How the work evolves

Once you recognize the potential within every object, you can easily see how the dancing energy of the objects in and of the world can speak to you - suggesting, hinting, asking you to realize new uses, new combinations, new meanings.  I'm always following that whispering energy of change, as I enter the dance of DEConstruction and REconstruction

In the studio, my friend Helen and I coined the term 'Aspect Art' as one element of what we are drawn to do.  We express aspects of ourselves - our own bits and pieces, flotsam and jetsam.  Some aspects we are trying to trying to bring from the inside to the outside, to understand them and at times, to relieve pain.  Other aspects we discover as we go along - the art leading us to another understanding of the self.

Other aspects expressed are symbolic and iconic to me.  I am drawn to capturing images of goddesses and myths.  These pieces hold the energy of these ideas and ideals.

Still other pieces have meaning to me but I cannot quite express in words what the meanings are.  The many pieces with dolls and doll parts always hold the energy of potential to me but what they literally mean evades me.  The titles that arise for each piece hint at meaning but are still enigmatic.

So far the work has evolved with certain thematic 'containers' - torsos, boxes and containers, shoes and altered dolls and I've organized the galleries along those lines, with an 'Other' theme thrown in.
